City Description

Changsha, the path to the landscapes of Zhangjiajie
City Description

It is the capital of Hunan province, the largest grain-growing area in China, and a huge city with a population of 6 million. It is the center of the province’s politics, economy, and transportation. During the long era after the fall of the Qin dynasty, Changsha was the center of Hangu. After defeat in war, however, different policies toward Changsha and Hunan province continued to be established throughout the history of the ensuing dynasties. The rebellion in Changsha began to emerge as a positive image to Chinese people during the time of Mao Zedong, the father of the People’s Republic of China.

Pride for “the soul of China’s founding” emerged. The main reason for international tourists to visit Changsha is that it is a way to enter the “Zhangjiajie,” famous for its beautiful landscape.

The provisional government of the Republic of KOrea existed here for seven months and it is also where Kim Gu was shot. You can visit the site of the provincial government of the time and the sanitarium where Kim Gu recuperated when he was injured.

Travel Tip

1. Package tours
If visiting “Zhangjiajie” is your purpose of travel, you may want to travel through existing travel packages.
2. Transportation
If you want to travel only in Changsha, it is best to use bus public transportation and taxis because rental cars are difficult to obtain and expensive.
3. Currency
Only the local currency can be used. Especially, for hotels, it is not possible to use credit cards except at 5-star hotels, and it is recommended to use RMB cash.
4. Climate
The spring and fall are short and temperature fluctuations are severe. Make sure you are thorough when preparing your clothes.
November is the month when the temperature changes between autumn and winter are severe.
In the summer (early May to early October), the subtropical conditions range from 35 to 42 degrees. In the winter, the humidity will lower the body temperature and it will feel colder than Korea.
5. Language
The Changsha dialect accent is quite strong in most places other than at luxury hotels and high-end restaurants.
6. Voltage
The voltage used is 220–240V, same as Korea, but when used for a long period of time, the voltage may be slightly different and electronic equipment may be damaged.
