City Description

Qingdao, a European port city within China
City Description

Qingdao is a representative port city of China, which was opened in 1898 as a concession to Germany. After being under Japanese rule during the First World War, it was returned to the Chinese government in 1922. The German beer factory in Qingdao, which is also the predecessor of Asahi beer in Japan, created “Qingdao Beer,” a beer made with German technology and Laosan water which became a global brand in 1903. In the city’s old town neighborhood, European style buildings have been preserved for over 100 years, making it a beautiful tourist attraction.

Though it is the second city of Shandong Province, Qingdao has become the symbol of the region and is even more well known than Jinan, the first city. Qingdao is famous for its financial, economic, leisure, tourist, airport, and port development. It is also the leading city for free/group excursions and golf tours, with more than 16 varied and cheap flight schedules a day. It’s only an hour away by plane from KOrea.

Travel Tip

1. Climate
The weather is similar to Korea’s. Unlike general continental weather in China, it is relatively cool in summer and cold in winter, with not much rain or snow.
2. Voltage
The voltage level used in China is 220V and most Korean electronic products can be used.
3. Language
Famous tourist attractions have information in Korean and you can use Korean to communicate easily in areas where there is a high concentration of Korean residents (near the city’s main plaza and near the airport in Korea Town ‘Cheongyang District’).
4. Currency
The Chinese Renminbi is used. You can use international credit cards (VISA, MASTER) at hotels and the main large stores, but in most places, you can only use Chinese bank debit cards (UNION PAY) or renminbi.
