City Description

Harbin, a city of ice
City Description

Harbin is located in the center of Northeast Asia and is the transportation hub at the entrance of Eurasia’s first connecting road. It is called the pearl of the Eurasian continental crossing and is also the center of political, economic and cultural affairs in northeast China. The climate is temperate continental monsoon, and there are four distinct seasons. As the birthplace of two dynasties, Jin and Qing, Harbin has consolidated its position in China’s long history. This is the place where General An Jung-geun, lieutenant general of an armed KOrean resistance group, assassinated Ito Hirobumi in Harbin station on October 26, 1909. For this reason, it is well known in KOrea. Harbin developed into an international city earlier than other cities in China. In particular, Harbin acted as a channel with Russia, which was the only way Western civilization was brought in at the time, during the period when exchange with the outside was suppressed by the ‘Bamboo Curtain.’ As such, Harbin began to develop earlier than other cities in China.
