Free Baggage Standards for U.S. routes

Carry-on baggage

Weight: 10 kg

Specifications: A+B+C = 115 cm

Permitted Quantity by Class: First/Business - 2 pieces, Economy - 1 piece

Specifications within 115cm:
  • A - 55 cm
  • B - 20 cm
  • C - 40 cm
Checked Baggage

Weight: Varies by class

Specifications: A+B+C = Under 158 cm

First and second checked bags are free

Permitted quantity and dimensions vary by class:
  • First Class - 3 pieces up to 32 kg
  • Business Class - 2 pieces up to 32kg
  • Economy Class - 2 pieces up to 23kg

Excess Baggage Fee

  • If you have baggage that exceeds both the quantity limit and weight/specifications limit, excess baggage charges will apply for both.
  • Amounts will be charged in KRW for departures from Korea, USD for departures from the U.S., and CAD for departures from Canada. For departures in all other countries, amounts will be charged in USD after converting the local currency by the day’s bank currency exchange rates.

Larger Musical Instruments

  • Air fare will apply.
  • Please contact the Asiana Airlines reservation center, search the website, or ask your travel agent for detailed charges.
  • Large instruments that cannot be transported as checked baggage, due to excess weight or dimensions, will be accepted as cabin bulky baggage. Additional fees will apply to obtain a seat for the item.

Sports Equipment

Golf Equipment
  • If the free baggage limits are exceeded, 1 piece of golf equipment is free. (This benefit is only for Asiana Airlines regions.)
  • However, if the golf equipment exceeds 23 kg, excess weight charges will apply.
  • Excess baggage charges will apply for each additional golf equipment that exceeds 1 free golf equipment allowance.
Snowboard/Water skiing, surfboard, wind surfing, scuba diving, bicycles
  • There is no charge if all baggage, including equipment, is within the permitted free baggage limits.
  • Excess baggage charges will apply for each bag that exceeds the permitted free baggage limits.
  • Excess size charges are exempt.
  • However, excess weight charges will apply if the equipment exceeds 23kg.

Codeshare Flight Baggage

  • The free baggage limits for Elite members of Asiana Club only apply for flights in U.S. routes that are operated by Asiana Airlines.

For baggage on codeshare flights in U.S. routes

  • In accordance with US DOT order 2009-9-20, if a passenger bears a flight ticket with a departure city or final destination in a U.S. territory, the baggage rules that apply at the beginning of their itinerary will apply throughout the entire itinerary, regardless of stopovers.
  • For codeshare flights with a departure or arrival in U.S. territory, the marketing airline will become the MSC (Most Significant Carrier). However, please note that for itineraries that include airlines other than Asiana (including codeshare flights), baggage rules for the other airlines may apply.
