City Description

The Kingdom of Cambodia is located in the southwest of the Indochina Peninsula bordering Vietnam, Thailand and Laos. Phnom Penh is its capital. The country won its independence from France in 1953 and adopted a constitutional monarchy. King Nordom Sihanmoni is the head of state, but Prime Minister Hun Sen has actual administrative power. Cambodia’s major cities include Phnom Penh, Battambang, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. Since the Khmer Rouge rule (1975 to 1979), there has been continuous civil war and chaos. Suggested Itinerary

Day 1 Expand
  • Royal Palace The royal palace, luxuriously decorated with gold, is prototypical of Khmer architecture and is the residence of the King. It is in the heart of Phnom Penh, overlooking the Mekong River and Tonlé Sap Lake. When the King is dwelling in the palace, the blue flag of the royal family is hung on the roof of the palace. The main attractions in the palace are the coronation chapel, foreign VIP reception hall, theater, and the Napoleon Memorial donated by Napoleon III of France.
  • National Museum The National Museum houses world-class archaeological, religious, and artistic artifacts from the ancient Khmer culture from the 4th to 13th centuries. More than 5,000 artifacts show the splendid Khmer culture.
  • Independence Memorial Monument The Independence Monument stands at the intersection of Sihanouk street and Norodom street in the heart of the capital. A typical Angkorian structure, it was erected to commemorate the declaration of complete independence from France.
  • Wat Phnom Wat Phnom, meaning “a temple on the hill,” is a temple for the common people unlike Silver Pagoda. Around the temple feels like a city park, and people release birds and pray or cool off in the shade under the trees while enjoying a beverage.
  • Sunset Cruise at Mekong River In the vicinity of Phnom Penh’s riverside, there are many cruise ships that cross the Mekong River. They are smaller than those on Hangang River, but among them are also large vessels that sail from the port of Phnom Penh to Vietnam. Most of them are docked mainly along Sisowath Quay, and most offer sunset and dinner cruises.
Taking a cruise tour with a cold beer and cool river breeze while watching the beautiful sunset will bound to etch the beauty of Phnom Penh in your memory.
