Baggage Compensation

General Standards

  • The limits of compensation for the loss, damage, or theft of baggage that was checked to the airport is USD 20 per kg or 1,519 SDR in accordance with the convention that is applicable to the flight.
  • However, if a costly item was reported and closing prices were paid in advance, compensation will be based on the reported price. If excess baggage fees were paid, compensation will be based on the weight that was paid for.
  • “SDR (Special Drawing Rights)” refers to a special drawing right that is prescribed by the International Monetary Fund. When an amount indicated in SDR is converted into the corresponding country's currency, the valid exchange rate from the court's final verdict date will be applied for lawsuits. In all other cases, the valid exchange rate from the compensation settlement date will be applied.

Standards by Types

Table of Standards by Types

Loss and Theft
  • The company's liability for checked baggage incidents will be USD 20 per kg or 1,519 SDR per passenger in accordance with the applicable convention for the flight.
However, if the costly item was reported and closing prices were paid in advance, compensation will be based on the reported price. If excess baggage fees were paid, compensation will be based on the paid weight.
  • The lower amount among the maximum compensation amount by weight (USD 20/kg) and the passenger’s actual amount of loss will be compensated.
  • Weight will be based on the weight that is recorded in the “Bag Check” row of the passenger's flight ticket. For auto bag tags, the weight will be based on the information recorded on the bag tag.
  • If the weight is not recorded on the ticket or cannot be calculated, weight will instead be calculated based on the lost baggage statement by the passenger, referring to the IATA’s Table of Weight.
  • If only a portion was lost, the lower amount between the claimed amount and the maximum compensation amount calculated based on the actual weight of the lost portion (deducting the weight of the retrieved bag from the weight written on the passenger’s ticket or bag tag) will be compensated.
Breakage and Damage
  • Repairs : Repairs will be compensated based on the repair invoice. For wet damage, it will be compensated based on the cleaning invoice.
  • Cash Compensation or Compulsory Purchase : If repairs cannot be made, compensation will be made in cash or by a new baggage up to the amount of the original price after deducting an annual 10% depreciation amount. However, damaged baggage shall be collected.
  • Compensation for breakage or damage will be subject to compensation limits in accordance with the convention that is applicable to the flight.
Delayed Delivery
  • Upon delayed arriving at the baggage, a daily necessity fee will be paid 1 time per person at the passenger's request. However, this does not apply if you were unable to retrieve your luggage because of another passenger.
  • If the baggage is determined as lost or stolen and to be compensated, daily expense will be excluded from the total compensation amount.
  • The daily necessity fee will be excluded if the destination is the passenger's original place of residence.
